Non Communicable Diseases Programs
APHFTA has been implementing NCD Program since November 2008.Diabetes and Hypertension being the major diseases affecting majority of Tanzania. By the sponsorship of World Diabetes Foundation, APHFTA in collaboration with Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and Ministry of Education has reached 90 private health facilities, 90 Primary Schools and 90 Communities in the 18 regions of Tanzania Mainland.
Various activities have been implemented
At health Facilties

  • Training of Health Workers on Diabetes care and management ,Clinicians, nurses and laboratory personnel have attended the training
  • Provision of basic diabetic kit for the diabetes clinic, this includes Sphygmomanometers, Stethoscopes, Weight/Height Scales,Macintosh,Forceps,gallpots,Antidiabetics,antihypertensives,special bicycles for conducting outreach visits to diabetic patients, booklets and guidelines for care and treatment of Diabetes and Hypertension
  • Quarterly supportive supervision to the facilities and schools

At the Primary Schools

  • Each of the health facilities in the project has been attached to a nearby primary school, of which the school teachers have been trained on Health lifestyle
  • School children have been taught on how to lead a healthy lifestyle including Healthy eating, physical activities
  • Nutrition clubs and recreation activities have been started and school children are involved

At the Community

  • Community members living nearby the health facilities and schools have been involved in diabetes screening campaigns and camps for their health checks
  • Posters, leaflets  with Health messages of leading healthy lifestyle have been distributed
